Thank you to Liza Rosenof (legal reference intern, 2013) for her work on the initial version of this guide.

Introduction

This LibGuide will help you locate the primary and secondary sources that are relevant for researching Massachusetts state law, including statutes, case law, regulations, and secondary sources.

Massachusetts Practice Series is an excellent place to start when researching a state law subject that is new to you.

A perfect place to begin your research online is with the Massachusetts Trial Court Law Libraries.  Their website contains wealth of information on Massachusetts state law, ranging from primary sources to research guides broken down by subject (e.g., criminal law, criminal records, cyberbullying). Membership (free) grants you access to a host of other print and online resources through their system as well.

How to Use this Guide

This guide is intended to introduce you to some of the key resources available at the Northeastern University School of Law Library for researching Massachusetts state law.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Need help identifying attorneys, business entities, state legislators? Check out the Find People & Entities page.

The Massachusetts law collection is located in the KFM 2400-2999 range on the 4th Floor of the law library.
